General Health Requirements

 

q  All in-state and out-of-state alpacas(out–of-state also see below for ALL requirements) must have a Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (CVI or health paper) completed not more than 30 days prior to the last day of the show for each alpaca transported to the show. The Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection is to be completed by a licensed and accredited veterinarian. All alpacas entered in the show must be microchipped prior to arriving to the show. The alpaca’s ARI name and number, microchip number, age, sex, and breed must be included on the Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (health paper) for each alpaca entered in the show, stalling as a companion or being transported.

 

q  Additional health tests AOBA require for entrance into our show is a negative BVDV -bovine viral diarrhea virus PCR. The negative test result and type must be noted by a licensed and accredited veterinarian on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection with date of test.  (Ex:  BVD/PCR or BVD/VI Negative, 01/01/2008). VI is accepted if  prior to 1/1/2010

 

q  All exhibitors are required to provide the Show Superintendent with 1 copy of the original Certificate of Veterinary Inspection that shall be retained in the permanent show records.

 

q  A representative will verify and examine all health papers.

 

q  Evidence of infectious or communicable disease, failure to produce the necessary documents for health certification and BVDV testing, or lack of microchip will result in your alpaca being denied entry to the show.

As of March 10, 2009 the following requirements were in effect:

NEW JERSEY ALPACA ATTENDING A NEW JERSEY FAIR/SHOW:

• Shall be accompanied by an official CVI or AHC

 

*OUT OF STATE ALPACA ATTENDING A NEW JERSEY FAIR/SHOW:

 Shall be accompanied by an official CVI

• Shall be tested negative for Bluetongue within 30 days prior to entry. Camelids that originate from states where Bluetongue is not endemic or considered low risk shall be exempt from testing.

• Shall be negative to an official tuberculosis test within 60 days prior to entry. Camelids that originate from an accredited-free state or zone shall be exempt from testing.

• All camelids to be imported six months of age or over shall be negative to an official brucellosis test within 30 days prior to entry. Neutered male camelids are exempt from testing.
